Mozart, Rossini, Bizet,Verdi and Gilbert & Sullivan, a roll call of composers that when said in the same breath, can only mean one thing; Opera!
Whilst Chansons, Perth's Chamber Choir, are better known for performing classical choral repertoire, some of the most loved choral pieces ever written are found in Opera. Mozart's Magic Flute, Rossini's William Tell, Bizet's wonderful Carmen, the list is endless, but each immediately conjures up the theatre and drama of a night at the opera. In a special concert to close their highly successful and much enjoyed 2023-24 Season, Chansons, led by their musical director Areti Lymperopoulou, will be joined by the accomplished Scottish pianist Andy Johnston, to perform choruses including from Mozart's Magic Flute, the Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Verdi's MacBeth, La Traviata and Nabucco. Also included, baroque composer Henry Purcell’s only opera, Dido and Aeneas, yet this one work ranks amongst one of the most loved and performed. An evening of Opera that promises to be full of operatic musical delights would not be complete without the wit and humour of Gilbert & Sullivan, and Chansons will be performing a number of pieces including 'Behold the Lord High Executioner' from the Mikado, and 'Once More Gondolieri' from The Gondoliers. Please join Chansons Chamber Choir in St John's Kirk on Saturday April 20th at 7.30pm for an evening that promises to delight music lovers everywhere. Tickets are now available from Perthshire Box Office and can also be purchased at the door on the night. |
